Canada is one of the few countries in the world that has had a broad range of excellent commercial mineral deposits. Mining today is still a major industry in Canada. Being able to present a philatelic “Special Study” on the country’s mineral heritage is an exciting challenge. The format of “Untold Wealth – Canada’s Mineral Heritage ” is geographical and encompasses all the important mining areas and commodities up until the mid-1900s. The material used in this exhibit includes covers to and from mining areas, letter contents relating to mining, covers with mining corner cards and illustrations, illustrated letter sheets, semi-official airmail covers to or from remote mining areas, mining related mail handled by express companies, mining postcards, governmental mining agencies, mining associations, mine rescue, mining schools, petroleum covers, mining stamp varieties etc. The cover census has been chosen to reflect the relative mining activity in each region.
