The gold medal winning exhibit, Canadian Special Delivery Stamps and Service: 1898-1954, was developed by Kimber A. Wald to present the variety of specialist opportunities available in collecting Canadian special delivery stamps and covers, documenting their use and alternative ways the fee was paid between 1898 and 1954. The exhibit presents each of the regular postage and airmail special delivery stamps, including proofs, mint and used examples, imprint blocks, and covers. This is followed by Canadian covers illustrating the use of Bahamas special delivery stamps issued to prepay postal expenses between the Commonwealth and that crown colony; covers showing usage to the United States; United States covers posted with Canadian adhesives to prepay the special delivery fee; special delivery-related labels, markings, and handstamps; and covers with ordinary postage stamps used to prepay special delivery fees. Also included is “The Quest for a New Canadian Specialty”, published in the November 2002 issue of the American Philatelist. The article describes Kimber Wald’s search for a new Canadian specialty, why the special delivery field was chosen, and how one develops a meaningful collection
