The pages shown in “The Major E.R. Toop Collection of Canadian Military Postal History” are the actual pages on which Ritch Toop mounted his extensive collection of Canadian military mail. They are not all in the order that Ritch may have exhibited them because often a page would have been used for more than one collection topic. Groups within sections are in one of the following sequences: alphabetic (by location names); .chronological usage; numerical (by location designation or form identification numbers); and, where appropriate, as Ritch originally had the pages. Where a piece fits into more than one collection, it was put in the most important one. To aid readers, there are notes in the index and elsewhere indicating page numbers where items of a similar type can be found dispersed in other parts of the volume, e.g. Prisoner of War and air letter material. It should be noted that Ritch’s work for various philatelic organizations, the many studies he was conducting, his writing for publication and other interests unfortunately did not allow time for him to write up numerous items in his collection, so a few items he was known to have owned may not be in this volume.
