MAIDEN VOYAGE. 1850 letter headed “Steam Ship Asia June 13” (1850) written aboard Cunard “Asia” on her return maiden voyage by a passenger bound from Boston to England, a faint red Halifax tombstone cancel (PAID June 13 1850) then carried back to New York, carried by the Cambria which arrived at New York June 23. ms rated 4d, and 5c due in Pittsfield, NH, its ultimate destination. The letter reads in part”our ship moves gallantly over the waves and it is the prettiest sight to stand on the wheel house where you have a full view of the ship and see her dip and rise…”
