1870 Argentina Aparicio War. SC docketing Bueons Ayres Apr 23 1870, small cds Correo Montevideo, Urugya (24 Abr 70), to Montreal, Canada, ms “pr St. Cordillera”, “1/” handstamp, crossed out and ms “26 cts”, Reverse with “Liverpool BR Packet 27 MY 70” and Montreal receiver (JU 10).
The letter was originally franked with a stamp to attempt partial payment, but the stamp was removed and sent fully unpiad. This was during the period of the Aparicio War when the Blancos invaded, and mail coaches were raided and letter bags opened. A DOUBLE TRANSATLANTIC cover, and rare origin for Canadian mail.
