1864 “Refused at the Door, W M”, Buckingham, LC to Montreal, PAID 5c.
A very unusual circumstance, a letter written for Gaspard Lukaesy with ms “Make allowance for misspelt words, as the writer is not conversant with the proper address (Immediate delivery required), addressed to Vitre Street, near St. Lawrence in the rear, modified “rear of 71 Vitre”, reverse with “Refused at the door, W M”, and Montreal (JY 22 64).
The letter reads in part “authorize you Sir to take charge of the two trunks, camera boxes etc in my wifes room. dont give them to any person. I am really annoyed by the treachery of my two companions, they have combined against me, and threaten to kill me”, etc.
